Handyman in Barcelona: hourly rate and what a visit covers

· 5 min

A handyman in Barcelona costs from €50* for a call-out with the first hour of work included, and from €30* for each extra hour; materials are extra. A visit of one or two hours can clear many of the small jobs that pile up at home: putting up shelves, assembling furniture, changing a tap or adjusting a door. What it doesn’t cover is work that needs an authorised installer, such as gas or a new electrical circuit, or anything that amounts to building work.

*Guide labour prices. The first hour includes travel and diagnosis; after that, time is charged by the hour. Before the visit, we confirm in writing the rate and which jobs we expect to fit into that time.

Three examples of how it adds up

These examples are a guide only; the real time depends on the condition of each item and on the materials being ready:

  • A newly rented flat in Sants: put up two shelves and a mirror, change a light fitting and adjust the bathroom door. With everything ready, this usually fits into two hours, from €80* plus materials.
  • A bathroom in Sant Gervasi: reseal the bath, replace the cistern mechanism and a flexible hose. Usually sorted in one or two hours, although the silicone needs time to cure before the bath can be used.
  • A house move in Badalona: assemble a large flat-pack wardrobe, a bed and a chest of drawers. Here the parts and the instructions set the pace; it’s sensible to allow three hours or more, from €110*.

If we arrive and can see the list will take longer than planned, we’ll tell you before carrying on, and you decide whether we keep going or leave part of it for another visit.

What a handyman can sort out in a single visit

With your list ready and the materials to hand, one or two hours is enough for several of these jobs:

  • Fixing and mounting: shelves, pictures, mirrors, curtain poles, roller blinds and TV brackets, on walls that can take them.
  • Furniture: flat-pack assembly, adjusting hinges and drawers, changing handles.
  • Doors and locks: doors that stick or won’t shut, handles, swapping a lock cylinder for an equivalent one.
  • Minor plumbing: dripping taps, cistern mechanisms, blocked traps, flexible hoses and silicone sealing around the shower or bath.
  • Simple electrics: replacing light fittings, sockets or switches with equivalent ones on a working installation.
  • Appliances: connecting a washing machine or dishwasher to existing water and waste connections.
  • Roller shutters: broken pull straps, jammed strap winders, loose slats.
  • Small finishing jobs: filling holes, touching up grout, retouching the paint on a wall.

What isn’t handyman work

A good handyman also knows when to say no. These jobs need a different specialist or a building quote:

  • Gas: any work on the gas installation must be carried out by an authorised gas installation company.
  • New circuits or changes to the consumer unit: these are done by an authorised electrician and may require an installation certificate.
  • Leaks inside walls or under floors: first they have to be traced, and the repair may involve opening up and redoing the finishes.
  • Knocking down or opening up walls: that’s demolition, with its own municipal paperwork and, if the wall is load-bearing, a technician and a licence.
  • Work on façades or at height from outside: this requires specific equipment and permits.

If something like this comes up during the visit, we’ll tell you plainly. If it falls within our renovation or demolition services, we’ll prepare a separate written quote.

How to get the most out of the hour

The first hour is won or lost before anyone turns up. These details make the difference:

  • Make a single list of everything outstanding, in order of priority. Grouping five repairs into one visit costs less than booking five visits.
  • Send photos of each job: the tap from underneath, the door edge-on, the wall where the shelf will go.
  • Decide who buys the materials. If you do, check the measurements and part numbers; if we bring them, we’ll tell you the price first.
  • Keep the fittings and instructions for flat-pack furniture to hand.
  • Tell us about access: which floor, whether there’s a lift or a concierge, and where we can unload. Parking in Ciutat Vella or Gràcia is not the same as in Sant Andreu or Nou Barris.
  • If you’re hanging something heavy, tell us whether the wall is brick or plasterboard: it changes the type of fixing.
  • If there’s drilling to do, pick a slot that respects your building’s quiet hours.

Hours, urgent jobs and areas

We work Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 18:00 and on Saturdays from 10:00 to 14:00. For urgent jobs, such as a front door that won’t shut or a leak under the sink, we find a slot as soon as we can, and call-outs outside those hours are only by prior arrangement, with the price confirmed beforehand. We cover Barcelona city, from Eixample to Horta-Guinardó and from Les Corts to Sant Martí, and the metropolitan area, including L’Hospitalet, Cornellà, El Prat, Badalona and Sant Cugat.

Jot down everything that needs doing at home and send it to us with a few photos. We’ll reply within 24 hours on working days with a written quote: how many hours we estimate, what materials are needed and what it will cost, before we book the visit.
